How great a debtor!

Good morning, beloved,

Ever notice how when life is quiet, peaceful, everyone is healthy, money in the bank, how easy it is to come to rely on this? Slowly but surely we can remove our trust in God and put our trust in these very temporal circumstances. The picture of this tree is such good reminder to me. This tree is quite alive, healthy, roots firmly established by the water.  Can you imagine this tree picking up it’s roots and saying, “I don’t like the water. I’m good on my own.” ? Of course not.  This tree relies heavily on the water in good times. And in bad.  However, when the waters stir, when the downpours come, when health issues arrive that are not solved, when  money is NOT in the bank, we look up to heaven and begin to panic.

Or not. When downpour after downpour come on the Bruinius family, I have to be honest I get overwhelmed. I can type it all out, make a good story for our family but yet I am finding as I type it out, I begin to find reason to be upset with God.  Yet, within the span of a day, such good, such stress poured down on our family. As I watched the emails come, as I listened on the phone to another issue, I had to just keep saying…

My friends, you have so many choices in your day, choices for life, for joy.   I know I can resonate with Robert Robinson’s hymn..

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.  Robert Robinson

So, join me this day.

Make known your declarations to God.  Lift up your debtor’s heart. Don’t forget to keep worship. Refuse the whispers of Satan.

“But the person who ·trusts [has confidence] in the Lord will be blessed.
·The Lord will show him that he can be trusted [L …whose trust/confidence is in him].
He will be like a tree planted near water [C vital and strong]
that sends its roots by a stream [Ps. 1:3].
It is not afraid when the ·days are hot [L heat comes];
its leaves are always green.
It ·does not worry [is not anxious] in a year ·when no rain comes [of drought];
it always produces fruit. Jeremiah 17 EXB

Trust. The Lord HAS shown Himself so faithful. I want to be that tree at the top of my post.  Vibrant, strong, trusting in my God to provide for each and every need we have. He is so faithful.

Three gifts, salty, sweet and just right

Please continue to pray for Micah Ahern. His parents are sitting in a hospital holding their breath, wondering if the cancer truly has returned.

Prayers for our Pastors and their wives:

Day 21 Pray that your pastor and his wife will not give in to discouragement, but will deal with inevitable criticism and conflict by committing themselves  into the hands of God, who judges righteously. (1Pet. 2:23) (ROH)

Pray on. Pray on.

Good morning, beloved,

Rain! Oh, I have to tell you, I was so excited for the rain. I love rain. Now weeks and weeks of no sunshine, no good for this bear, but when we sit in our sunroom and listen to the rain patter on the roof..beautiful. The world already seems greener to me. When we went out for our walk today, there was this cute little barn swallow that was belting out his praise to his Creator.

A Barn Swallow flying over a lake in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The upper side of the bird is Steve Stearns

I love walking early in the morning with Joshua. The quiet is precious to me. We hear the birds, we watch the squirrels scurry, and the sun rises as we walk. Some mornings as we walk around the lake we see a beautiful mist rising off the lake. The sun rising on the lake spreading its orange, red and yellow hues across the still lake..all crying out in beautiful praise to our God.

Danny has continued his little saying all this week. Today is going to be a good day, Mom. Now the other kids are beginning to pick up on this and repeat it…and he has his nose a bit out of joint. Wanting this to be between just him and Mom, he protested at the nods his brothers and sister were giving him by repeating. I believe the Lord revealed a good way to ease his nose back into place. I told him he was giving me a blessing every time he said that to me and I repeated it back to him. I told him if the other kids pick this up the encouragement and blessing spreads even farther. He is still thinking that through, yet I know it to be true. When our mouths are full of truth and blessing, we don’t have time for arguments and sinful thoughts and patterns of behavior.

Such a lesson for me…at night since he was very little he has always said the same phrase to me. Always. Love you, see you in the morning, good night and I repeat it back to him. And then he says have a good night. We cannot go to bed without saying these words to one another or he finds me to say it. Another example of blessing! Another chance for my son to teach me, and I am grateful .

Well two days left on our tour of the Sermon on the Mount. I cannot believe the summer is gone! We spent the summer touring the Sermon and now we are drawing to a close. Want to know what we are studying next? Stay tuned! Can’t wait.

Matthew 7:15Beware of false prophets, who come to you dressed as sheep, but inside they are devouring wolves. 16 You will fully recognize them by their fruits. Do people pick grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

We will know them by their fruit…hmmm...fruit: of works or deeds, “fruit” being the visible expression of power working inwardly and invisibly, the character of the “fruit” being evidence of the character of the power producing it, Mat 7:16

Let’s consult the whole Word to find more about fruit!

Jeremiah 5: 31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests exercise rule at their own hands and by means of the prophets. And My people love to have it so! But what will you do when the end comes?

For someone to be called a prophet, they must prophesy truly every time. Never a mistake. Ever. So a false prophet is going to mess up. He isn’t going to be perfect every time. This next set is long but bear with it, we learn much!

Jeremiah 23:

16 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Do not listen to the words of the [false] prophets who prophesy to you. They teach you vanity (emptiness, falsity, and futility) and fill you with vain hopes; they speak a vision of their own minds and not from the mouth of the Lord.

17 They are continually saying to those who despise Me and the word of the Lord, The Lord has said: You shall have peace; and they say to everyone who walks after the stubbornness of his own mind and heart, No evil shall come upon you.

18 For who among them has stood in the council of the Lord, that he should perceive and hear His word? Who has marked His word [noticing and observing and giving attention to it] and has [actually] heard it?

19 Behold, the tempest of the Lord has gone forth in wrath, a whirling tempest; it shall whirland burst upon the heads of the wicked.

20 The anger of the Lord shall not turn back until He has executed and accomplished the thoughts and intents of His mind and heart. In the latter days you shall consider andunderstand it perfectly.

21 I did not send these [false] prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

22 But if they had stood in My council, then they would have caused My people to hear My words, then they would have turned them [My people] from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.

23 Am I a God at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off?

So false prophets:

  • teach you vanity (emptiness, falsity, and futility)
  • fill you with vain hopes
  • they speak a vision of their own minds and not from the mouth of the Lord
  • To those who despise Me and the word of the Lord: You shall have peace; and they say to everyone who walks after the stubbornness of his own mind and heart, No evil shall come upon you.

God is angry! He did not send the false prophets! They prophesy but not from the Lord’s mouth. Frightening. Absolutely frightening…

2 Peter’s all about false prophets.

Ezekiel 34:

And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them, even to the [spiritual] shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the [spiritual] shepherds of Israel who feed themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the sheep?

You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you kill the fatlings, but you do not feed the sheep.

The diseased and weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the hurtand crippled you have not bandaged, those gone astray you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought to find, but with force and hardhearted harshness you have ruled them.

And they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild beasts of the field.

My sheep wandered through all the mountains and upon every high hill; yes, My sheep were scattered upon all the face of the earth and no one searched or sought for them.

Shepherds are the false prophets!  They aren’t feeding the body! They are gorging themselves and nobody is strengthened by the words coming from their mouths. No healings, no lost sheep found, they are ruling with force and harshness. Now His beloved are scattered and being devoured by the beasts.

Now with these verses under our belt, I’m going to move back to Matthew 7:

21 Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.

22 Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name and driven out demons in Your name and done many mighty works in Your name?

23 And then I will say to them openly (publicly), I never knew you; depart from Me, you who act wickedly [disregarding My commands].

Are the dots connected? Seems to me that those who think they are prophesying in His name are nowhere near the mark. Rather those who do His will in heaven with enter the kingdom of heaven. If they disregard His commands, Jesus will publicly disregard them. They drove our demons…really? Mighty works…really? Obviously to Jesus, He saw their hearts and He saw they were not feeding the body of believers, rather they filled people with false hope, vanity and have visions that do not come from Him.

Do you wonder about Christian t.v. prophets? What are people drawn to the most? (SOTM, p.144, @Precepts Int’l) The healings, the amazing miracle stories..the slayings in the Spirit…do people want to hear that God giving grace in the daily struggle but tomorrow the same struggles or more are in your life? Not so much. People love having their ears tickled. We have to be very careful who we follow. Very. Consider the following:

“What is so dangerous about following people who emphasize prophesying, casting out demons, or performing miracles over obedience to the whole counsel of God? To which gate would they be leading people?” (SOTM, p. 144@Precepts Int’l)

On that note, I have all my people up and going and making their green smoothies and our kitchen looks like the last days of a misspent life. 😉 Pray on..pray on!

Good morning, beloved,

So good to be in His presence this morning, a quiet, still morning, here is the Biblegateway‘s verses of the day:

Jeremiah 23:23 Am I a God at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off?24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? says the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? says the Lord.

This morning, I begin a new adventure. 🙂 We are all going to my parents’ church to take part in their VBS. My son, Daniel, my niece Macey, my son, Noah and I will all be guides. The rest of the fam will be in the VBS as participants. In years past they have given the guides 15 minutes or more in guide time with their kids and now it is cut short. I understand. Yet, I get all excited about talking to them about the verses, the background, the context, the (well, imagine me in person…on caffeine..)and  me wanting you in heaven with me. 😉 I love this VBS, watching the kids praise the Lord with the hand motions, I cry every day…in fact my sweet niece Macey watches me…are you going to cry Aunt Cara? She is always my helper. I LOVE THAT! So we worship together. We pray together. She has no clue how much I pray over her life during our prayer time. I love that kid so much. Her heart to be there with me and help me. Daniel with be our other helper this year. So basically, we’ll be set. 😉 And I’d better not cry this year, or else.

Yet, in this, somehow, I broke my middle toe. Ahem. On Friday night…not good. Very painful. I’m not sure how I’m doing all this…I’m doing it, people. This is kingdom work. Will you pray with me?

This week, tho, to prep myself in the morning, I am going to show you all the verses they are going to learn and give the context. So brief break from Sermon on the Mount…we’ll be back on Saturday. 🙂

First day, is Jeremiah 32:

17 Alas, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too hard or too wonderful for You

18 You Who show loving-kindness to thousands but recompense the iniquity of the fathers into the bosoms of their children after them. The great, the mighty God; the Lord of hosts is His name

19 Great [are You] in counsel and mighty in deeds, Whose eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men, to rewardorrepay each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings,

20 Who wrought signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, and even to this day [continues to do so], both in Israel and among other men, and made for Yourself a name, as at this day.

What can we learn from this passage and draw away? There is so much…

First, the names Creator God: You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!

Then…the great, the mighty God: the Lord of hosts! Friends, I love this name and I hope after I define it you will too..

Hosts:  that which goes forth, army, war, warfare, host

a) army, host, 1) host (of organised army),2) host (of angels),3) of sun, moon, and stars,4) of whole creation

So from this definition, what do we learn? We learn God is warrior God. He is the leader of the army of angels. He is over all of creation. Read what Chuck Smith says:

1. Some people have gods that are not so great. Gods(small g) that bring them into captivity and bondage to things that destroy.
2. Whatever ambition, desire, or ideal that rules your life is your god.
a. Some are ruled by money.
b. Others are ruled by the desire for sex.
c. Some are ruled by the desire for fame.
d. None of these are wrong in their place, but to be a slave to them is sad.
3. He is a mighty God. In fact He introduced Himself to Abraham as the Almighty God. El Shaddai.
4. Lord of hosts. We are told in the scriptures of the vast hosts of angels in heaven. In one place they are numbered at over a hundred million, plus millions of millions.
5. They are there to do His bidding and will.
6. When Peter drew his sword to try to defend Jesus in the garden as they were arresting Him, Jesus said, “Put away your sword, do you not realize that I could order 10,000 angels to come to My defense if I so pleased?”
Let’s now look at another word in this set of verses which we tend to overlook but an old, but wonderful Precepts teacher taught me…
Lovingkindness: checed the grace, favor, mercy of our God towards men, a constant and abiding favor, abiding sure mercies of our God. This is a covenant ( In theology, the covenant of works, is that implied in the commands, prohibitions, and promises of God; the promise of God to man, that mans perfect obedience should entitle him to happiness. This do, and live; that do, and die.) word. God cannot stop being lovingkindness towards us.
One more list to pull today and then I must get moving. 🙂
As you move through your day, ponder this:
We serve God who is:
Great [are You] in counsel:
Deutronomy 7:21 You shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is among you, a mighty and terrible God.
Nehemiah 1:5 And I said, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, Who keeps covenant, loving-kindness, and mercy for those who love Him and keep His commandments,
Mighty in deeds:
Deuteronomy 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, Who is not partial and takes no bribe.18 He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger or temporary resident and gives him food and clothing.
Psalm 50: 1 The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and calls the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
Hold Him today, beloved. Pray on. Pray on.

Good morning, beloved of God,

These last two days have been a bit “sludgey”. Drudgey. And as I reflect on the busyness of the last few days, more and more I see glimpses of God’s perfect care for me. Ashes. Coffee. Sitting quietly alone. Conversation with old friend. Food made: yogurt, dehydrated apples..Coming home last night in the snow problem. Getting to the doctor 1/2 hour late because of the snow..their response? only for you..God’s grace. Mercy. People responding to my pleas for prayer. His kindness.. Noah’s response to surgery? Okay, Mom.

My heart could handle so much more with this perspective. It’s a God perspective. It’s His strength. It’s His hope. It’s His Spirit. Last night, He gave me a book as well by Carol Kent.  And I was able to just laugh last night in the pitch black with only my cellphone flashlight and this book. She shared a Scripture that just blessed the socks off me. Allow me to share with you! Maybe this sounds a bit corny or strange but I think that when God wrote this Scripture through David‘s pen, He thought of the day when I would need to hear it.

Psalm 34

4I sought (inquired of) the Lord and required Him [of necessity and on the authority of His Word], and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.(A)

5They looked to Him and were radiant; their faces shall never blush for shame or be confused.

6This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7[a]The Angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him [who revere and worship Him with awe] and each of them He delivers.(B)

8O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.(C)

Did you need to hear that? Listen to His word! Every promise kept! Every need YOU’VE met! Faithful God!! I’m not going to beg God to remove my circumstances. He has me here for a reason and it’s GOOD!! Why? I’m not alone. Never alone. Each step is grace and hope. The darkness is dispelled and light pierces my heart.  Love that will not let me go.

And guess what? When I opened Biblegateway today, the verses were put there for me. Were they put there for you too? 😉

Jeremiah 29:10-14

10For thus says the Lord, When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you and keep My good promise to you, causing you to return to this place.

11For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.

12Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you.

13Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.(A)

14I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will release you from captivity and gather you from all the nations and all the places to which I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I caused you to be carried away captive.

Pray on, friend. Pray on.
